Ce courrier est envoyé par l’agence de photographie Gong Mao - agence importante et connue de Hsinking - pour le bourg de Dong Feng Tai, situé dans la banlieue de Tientsin. L’enveloppe contient des photographies - environ 25 à 30 - sont poids total est compris entre 200 et 300 g.

Au passage à Shanhaiguan, comme le timbre apposé n’est pas conforme, un cachet spécifique (rectangle violet) est apposé. Le texte de ce cachet signifie : « Courrier provenant d’un bureau dont les timbres sont invalides. La taxe appliquée doit être recouvrée par le bureau de transit de Shanhaiguan ». Ce type de cachet - avec le même texte - se présente sous deux formats. Presque carré (voir courrier de 1937) et rectangulaire avec le texte sur 3 colonnes. Des variations de dimensions, plus ou moins importantes, existent.

La date de l’oblitération est illisible mais, je situe le voyage de cette enveloppe entre le 7 février 1936 et le 31 mars 1937. Ceci en fonction des éléments identifiables sur ce courrier. D’abord le tarif qui correspond à la période (1). Ensuite l’oblitération mécanique japonaise dont la première utilisation est fixée au 1er janvier 1936 (2). Et enfin, la marque de Shanhaiguan dont l’utilisation correspond aux dates indiquée ci-dessus.

This letter was sent by the Gong Mao photography agency - a large and well-known agency in Hsinking - for the town of Dong Feng Tai, on the outskirts of Tientsin. The envelope contains photographs - around 25 to 30 - and weighs between 0,44 and 0,66 lb.

When the mail passed through Shanhaiguan, a special stamp (purple rectangle) was affixed because the stamp was not in conformity. The stamp reads: "Mail from an office with invalid stamps. The tax applied must be recovered by the Shanhaiguan transit office". This type of postmark - with the same text - comes in two formats. Almost square (see letter of 1937) and rectangular with the text in 3 columns. There are variations in size, to a greater or lesser extent.

The date of the cancellation is illegible but I can place the journey of this envelope between February 7th, 1936 and March 31th,1937. This is based on the elements identifiable on this mail. Firstly, the rate, which corresponds to the period (1). Secondly, the Japanese mechanical cancellation, which was first used on January 1st, 1936 (2). And finally, the Shanhaiguan mark, which was used on the dates indicated above.
