L’adresse du destinataire est biffée d’une croix au crayon violet ce qui indique que la lettre est bien arrivée. Au dos de l’enveloppe, une mention manuscrite « Absent » et un petit cachet ovale. Ce type de marque de facteur, indique une trace de recherche.

En règle générale, la lettre ou le chiffre du haut indique le bureau d’attache - ici XVème arrondissement - et le chiffre du bas (ici 24) l’indicatif du facteur. La forme du cachet indique la spécialité (journaux, imprimés etc…) et la brigade avec laquelle travaille le facteur (1).

The recipient's address is crossed out in purple pencil, indicating that the letter has arrived. On the back of the envelope, a handwritten note "Absent" and a small oval postmark. This type of letter carrier's mark indicates a trace of research.

As a general rule, the upper letter or number indicates the home office - here the XVth arrondissement - and the lower number (here 24) the letter carrier's call sign. The shape of the stamp indicates the specialty (newspapers, printed matter, etc.) and the brigade with which the letter carrier works (1).
