Cette lettre, malgré l’indication « Via Siberia » apposée par son expéditeur, ne va pas suivre cette route postale pourquoi ? Il est probable que nous ne le saurons jamais. La route via Sibérie, pour la France, est encore viable. Elle ne sera fermée qu’au mois de juillet 1940.

Cependant, ce courrier est acheminé vers la Chine - les japonais occupants plusieurs villes au delà de la grande muraille. Il met sept jours pour arriver à Shanghai - délai tout à fait normal - Il reçoit une première oblitération à 14 h (recto de l’enveloppe) dont la date est en calendrier de la République de Chine, 28ème année, 3ème mois, 17ème jour (17 mars 1939). Puis, une seconde oblitération à 15 h (verso de l’enveloppe) dont la date est en calendrier grégorien. De Shanghai, le courrier prend le bateau certainement vers les USA. Le délai par cette voie étant plus court que par Suez.

Despite the indication "Via Siberia" affixed by its sender, this letter did not follow this postal route, why? We will probably never know. The route via Siberia to France is still viable. It was not closed until July 1940.

However, this mail was sent to China - the Japanese occupied several cities beyond the Great Wall. It took seven days to arrive in Shanghai - a perfectly normal delay - and was first cancelled at 2pm (on the front of the envelope) with the date in the calendar of the Republic of China, 28th year, 3rd month, 17th day (March 17th, 1939). Then a second cancellation at 3pm (back of envelope) with the date in the Gregorian calendar. From Shanghai, the mail certainly took the boat to the USA. The delay by this route was shorter than by Suez.
