Cette lettre envoyée le 19 mai 1943 pour Zurich va mettre un mois et demi pour arriver à destination. Elle ne porte pas d’indication qui permette d’affirmer qu’elle est passée par la voie postale établie en juin 1941 à savoir : Tiflis , Erzerum , Istanbul, Sofia et Vienne pour rejoindre sa destination. Depuis le 1er mars 1937, la surtaxe de recommandation est de 16 fens et il semble que ce tarif reste applicable jusqu’au 30 septembre 1944. Mais, dans sa grille tarifaire, R. W Farquhar (1), indique un coût de 20 fens à partir du 1er mars 1942. Nous sommes donc, ici, en présence d’un courrier affranchi selon ce tarif. Or, je n’ai, pour le moment, trouvé aucune autre lettre recommandée présentant les mêmes caractéristiques. Tous les autres plis recommandés, en ma possession, sont affranchis à 36 fens.

Ceci me laisse donc supposer, que cette lettre a pu - au vu de son délai d’acheminement - passer par la voie « Pacifique » - tout comme le courrier à destination de la France et de la Grande Bretagne - et que ce taux de recommandation (20 fens) ne s’appliquait qu’aux courriers transitant par cette voie postale.

This letter, sent to Zurich on May 19th, 1943, took a month and a half to reach its destination. There is no indication that it was sent via the postal route established in June 1941: Tiflis , Erzerum , Istanbul, Sofia and Vienna to reach its destination. Since March 1st, 1937, the recommendation surcharge has been 16 fen, and it seems that this rate remained applicable until September 30th, 1944. But R. W. Farquhar (1), in his price list, indicates a cost of 20 fen from March 1st, 1942. We are therefore dealing here with mail franked at this rate. So far, I have found no other registered letter with the same characteristics. All other registered letters in my possession are franked at 36 fen.

This leads me to assume that this letter - in view of its transit time - may have been sent via the "Pacific" route - just like mail destined for France and Great Britain - and that this recommended rate (20 fen) only applied to mail transiting via this postal route.
