May 16th, 1938 - Letter from Dairen to Southampton (USA)

La péninsule du Kangtung (KLT) est, depuis 1905, sous administration japonaise. Les tarifs et les timbres utilisés sont ceux du Japon. Tout comme dans les bureaux de la zone South Manchuria Railway.

La destination, Southampton est une ville située au sud-est du comté de Suffolk, sur l'île de Long Island, dans l'État de New York. La portion orientale de son territoire forme la partie ouest de la péninsule de South Fork, notamment celle qui se trouve au-delà du Canal Shinnecock qui relie la Peconic Bay à la Great South Bay (« Grande baie sud ») et qui répartie Southampton en deux parts à peu près égales (1).

L’expéditeur « g. Ichahashi » - d’après l’adresse indiquée - fait partie du bureau du gouvernement du Kwangtung. A l’arrivée, la destinataire n’habite plus à l’adresse indiquée. Celle-ci est biffée au crayon et la nouvelle destination est indiquée mais, difficilement lisible.

L’oblitération de départ, au type peigne, fut utilisée dans les bureaux du Mandchoukouo d’avril 1934 à décembre 1937 suite à l'Abolition des Droits Extra territoriaux. Mais, dans le cas présent, nous sommes à Dairen au KLT et l'utilisation de ces oblitérations durera jusqu’en février 1944. L’abréviation I.N.P.O. signifie « Imperial Nippon Post Office » et se traduit par « Bureau de poste impérial japonnais » (2).

The Kangtung Peninsula (KLT) has been under Japanese administration since 1905. The fares and stamps used are those of Japan. Just like in the offices of the South Manchuria Railway zone.

The destination, Southampton, is a town in the south-east of Suffolk County, on Long Island, New York. The eastern part of its territory forms the western part of the South Fork peninsula, in particular that part beyond the Shinnecock Canal which links Peconic Bay to Great South Bay and divides Southampton into two roughly equal parts (1).

The sender "g. Ichahashi" - according to the address given - is a member of the Kwangtung government office. On arrival, the addressee no longer lived at the address given. The address was crossed out in pencil and the new destination indicated, but it was difficult to read.

The original comb-type cancellation was used in Manchukuo offices from April 1934 to December 1937 following the Abolition of Extra Territorial Rights. In this case, however, we are in Dairen at the KLT and these cancellations were used until February 1944. The abbreviation I.N.P.O. stands for "Imperial Nippon Post Office" (2).
